Our home economists mixed up this heartwarming delight. Graham crackers and cinnamon make a golden topping over warm pears that are combined with orange juice for the fun twist on a classic dessert.
Ingredients:
4 medium ripe pears, peeled and sliced
1/4 cup king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour
sugar substitute equivalent to 1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup orange juice
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
topping:
3 whole reduced-fat graham crackers, crushed
sugar substitute equivalent to 1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons reduced-fat butter, melted
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the pears, flour, sugar substitute, orange juice and orange peel. Spoon into an 8-in. square dish coated with cooking spray.
2. In a small bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar substitute, flour and cinnamon; stir in butter. Sprinkle over pear mixture. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until topping is crisp and lightly browned. Serve warm. Yield: 6 servings.
