From - Homemade orange extract using peel from navel oranges, vodka, water, and about a week to steep! Substitute lemons or limes for a different flavor - Place in small bottles for gift giving! If you make this, try it in Candied Ginger Pound Cake With a Hint of Orange, or include a copy of the recipe with the gift bottle of extract - Ingredients:
1 large clean navel orange (peeled, no white pith!) |
1/4 cup boiling water |
1/2 cup vodka |
Directions:
1. After thoroughly washing a large navel orange with soap to remove all pesticides, dirt, and germs, carefully remove the peel without disturbing the white pith! Chop peel finely in food processor ~ Place chopped peel into a sterile jar and top with boiling water and vodka. 2. Cool to room temperature and store covered in the cupboard for 3-7 days before using as orange flavoring. 3. After a week, strain into small sterile bottles. For gift giving, tie each bottle with ribbon and a tag marked orange extract . |
