Caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms stuffed in a turkey & beef burger. Yum. This recipe make 7 burgers, with 5 oz. of meat each.
Ingredients:
1 1/5 lb ground beef, 90/10
1 lb ground turkey, 99% fat free
1 packet onion soup mix
2 tablespoons fat free sour cream
1 oz white wine
3/4 onion, in 7 slices
6 oz. mushrooms, sliced
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
Directions:
1. Mix onion soup with sour cream. Add wine to moisten dried onions. Add sour cream mixture and ground turkey in a bowl until well combined. Add ground beef and mix gently, making sure to not over work meat. Separate meat into 14 equal portions and flatten into patties.
2. Lightly spray a non stick skillet and heat on medium high heat. Place full onion slices onto skillet making sure not to break apart. Cook on each side until lightly caramelized.
3. Lightly spray another non-stick skillet and add mushrooms. Lightly salt to get the mushrooms to release their juices. Cook until they have reduced down and drain liquid.
4. While onions and mushrooms are still warm, place one full onion slice on one burger patty, top with 1/7 of the mushrooms, place another patty on top and pinch edges closed. Do this with the remaining burgers.
5. Once the burgers are assembled, sprinkle with spice mix on both sides. Place burgers on a preheated grill and cook through.
