Incredibly good and an easy way to use up an onion. You will be surprised how great this is. Good for camping or just when you need something completely different. You need a grill or you can try this with the oven - the result should be the same. Ingredients:
1 onion |
3 tablespoons au jus sauce, paste (or beef if you cant find au jus whic is the problem i usually have) |
3 tablespoons butter |
aluminum foil |
potato chips or bread |
provolone cheese |
Directions:
1. Place onion on a square sheet of foil (2 - 3 sheets actually works best). Slice onion horizontally and then vertically so that you have little squares. DO NOT cut all the way through, you want the onion still intact and standing upright. Using as much or as little butter as you want, slice butter into slices and stuff into the squares. Then scoop Au Jus base and stuff into squares as well. You want a good amount on the onion but don't over do it because it will be very salty. I don't use measurements so eyeball it. Once that is done, fold foil over onion into a packet. Make sure there are no holes or the good stuff will leak out. Place packet on grill and let cook for about 1 hour. You could probably do this in the oven as well. 2. When onion is done it will be translucent. 3. Cut onion into bite size pieces and place small amount on chip or bread. Top with cheese. MMM - . |
