Here is another of my Mom's fanatastic old recipes, one that all her family enjoyed for years!! Ingredients:
2 1/4 cups flour |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1/2 teaspoon clove |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup shortening |
1/2 cup sugar plus 2 tbsp. sugar |
2/3 cup unsulphured molasses |
1/4 cup water |
1 egg |
Directions:
1. Combine flour, and next ingredients. Set aside. 2. Beat shortening and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. Beat in molasses, water and egg. Stir in flour mixture until well blended. Cover and chill at least 2 hours. 3. Preheat oven to 350°F Place remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar on wax paper. To prepare cookies, shape heaping tablespoons of dough into balls and roll in sugar. Place about 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. |
