This is the stew from my Móther's time - so delicious!! Ingredients:
2 lbs stewing beef |
3/4 cup flour |
1 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon paprika |
2 tablespoons vegetable oil |
1 onion, quartered |
1 garlic clove, minced |
2 cups beef broth or 2 cups bouillon |
1 teaspoon salt (to taste) |
1 tablespoon lemon juice |
1 teaspoon sugar |
1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
1/2 teaspoon paprika |
1 -2 bay leaf |
1 dash allspice |
6 carrots, cut in pieces |
6 medium white potatoes, cut in pieces |
1/2 cup cold water |
1/4 cup flour |
Directions:
1. Combine flour, paprika and garlic powder in a plastic bag. Coat stew beef in flour mixture and brown in hot oil in a large skillet; transfer to the crock pot. 2. Add the remaininig ingredients except for 1/2 cup cold water and 1/4 cup flour. 3. Cook on low for 9-11 hours. 4. About 30 minutes before serving, mix together the flour and cold water; add to the pot. Turn on high and cook until thickened. |
