Old Fashioned Raisin Bars |

From D. Rose at Madison Middle School. Ingredients:
1 cup raisins |
1 cup water |
1/2 cup salad oil or 1/2 cup shortening |
1 slightly beaten egg |
1 cup sugar |
1 3/4 cups flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 teaspoon allspice |
1/2 teaspoon clove |
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped |
Directions:
1. Combine raisins and water in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in salad oil, cool to lukewarm. Stir in sugar and egg. Sift together dry ingredients; beat into raisin mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour batter into greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350* for 20 minutes or until done. When cooled cut into bars. Dust with powdered sugar. |
