Old-Fashioned Gingerbread |

I love gingerbread, but my husband hates it, so I don't make this often,mostly at the holidays. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, softened |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 egg |
1 cup molasses |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1 teaspoon ground ginger |
1 cup hot water |
sweetened whipped cream |
Directions:
1. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating at med. speed with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses, mixing well. 2. Combine flour and next 5 ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition. 3. Pour batter into a lightly greases and floured 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350F for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted, comes out clean. Serve with a scoop of whipped cream. |
