Ingredients:
4 cups (16 ounces) shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese |
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon paprika |
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon red pepper |
additional paprika |
Directions:
1. Combine cheese and butter; mix well. Set aside. 2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, and pepper in a large mixing bowl, mixing well. Gradually add flour mixture to cheese mixture, mixing until dough is no longer crumbly. Form dough into a ball. 3. Use a cookie gun to shape dough into straws, following manufacturer's instructions, or use the following procedure: Divide dough into fourths; roll each portion into a rectangle 1/3- inch thick on waxed paper. Use a pastry wheel to cut dough into 4- x 1/2-inch strips. 4. Place strips or straws on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Sprinkle with additional paprika. Store straws in airtight containers, placing waxed paper between layers. |
