Old family recipe, using cornflakes as a filler with apples for a different apple dessert recipe Ingredients:
pastry dough |
2 1/2 cups flour |
1 tbs sugar |
1 tsp salt |
1 cup shortening |
1 egg yolk plus milk to make 2/3 cup |
1 egg white ( to brush over dough ) |
filling |
1 cup cornflakes slightly crushed |
6 cups apples, peeled , sliced |
3/4 cup sugar |
1 tsp cinnamon or to taste |
powdered sugar icing |
Directions:
1. Make dough: 2. Mix all together until smooth and pliable on a lightly floured surface 3. Roll out half the dough to fit a 11 x 15 inch pan 4. Sprinkle cornflakes over dough. 5. Combine remaining ingredients and spread evenly over dough. 6. Roll out other half and cover the filling. 7. Slit crust in a few places 8. Brush top crust with the egg white. 9. Bake in a preheated 400F oven for 10 minutes 10. Reduce heat to 375 and bake 25 minutes longer. 11. Drizzle with a powdered sugar icing while warm. 12. Cut when cool. 13. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if desired. |
