Homemade breakfast bars are high in fiber and taste. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1/2 cup maple syrup |
4 eggs, small |
2 cups whole-wheat flour, unsifted |
1 cup wheat germ |
1 cup flaxseed, ground |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup oats, uncooked |
1 cup walnuts, chopped |
1 cup raisins |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In bowl, cream butter until light. 3. Beat in sugar and syrup. 4. Beat in eggs, one at a time. 5. Blend in flour, wheat germ, flaxseed, baking powder, and salt; mix well. 6. Stir in oats, raisins, and nuts. 7. Spread evenly in lightly greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan and bake for 30 minutes. 8. Cool in pan. 9. Cut into 1 X 4 1/3-in bars. 10. Store in tin or wrap well in foil. Store in refrigerator or freeze to be used as desired. 11. Optional Flavor Substitutions: 12. use margarine for butter 13. use molasses for maple syrup 14. use craisins for raisins |
