This is a newly acquired recipe that I've already made countless times. Nutmeg adds a palate-pleasing taste.Dorothy Knapp, Mt. Morris, New York Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, softened |
3/4 cup sugar |
1 egg |
2 cups king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1-1/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1 cup buttermilk |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Combine the flour, nutmeg, baking powder and baking soda; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Pour into a 9-in. x 5-in. loaf pan that has been coated with cooking spray. 2. Bake at 350° for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Yield: 1 loaf (16 slices). |
