1 (8-ounce) carton commercial sour cream |
3/4 teaspoon soda |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 egg |
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans |
Directions:
1. Combine sour cream and soda; set aside. 2. Combine sugar, flour, and shortening; blend with pastry blender until crumbly. 3. Spoon half the mixture ino a greased 9-inch square pan. 4. Combine remaining crumb mixture with sour cream mixture, egg, and nutmeg; mix well. 5. Spoon batter over crumb mixture; sprinkle with nuts. 6. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. 7. Yield: one 9-inch square cake. |
