NUT TOPPED APPLESAUCE BREAD This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Devine Estate in Brenham, Texas in 1991. Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar |
1 cup applesauce |
1/3 cup vegetable oil |
2 eggs at room temperature |
3 tablespoons milk at room temperature |
2 cups sifted flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg |
3/4 cup chopped pecans |
topping |
1/4 cup brown sugar |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 cup chopped pecans |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 then grease a square baking pan. 2. In large bowl thoroughly combine sugar, applesauce, oil, eggs and milk. 3. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. 4. Add to applesauce mixture then stir until well combined. 5. Stir in pecans then turn into prepared pan. 6. Combine topping ingredients then sprinkle evenly over batter and bake 1 hour. 7. Cover with foil after 30 minutes to avoid over browning. 8. Remove from pan and cool. |
