This is a recipe from my Mom's recipe collection, old recipe books, papers, and even the backs of old envelopes - When she passed on , I inherited her collection, and this is one of the recipes that I found - that was easy to decipher - lol Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter |
1 cup fruit sugar |
3 eggs |
1 cup chopped nuts |
1 lb dates, chopped |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
1 cup flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time, beating between the addition of each yolk. 2. Add chopped nuts and dates, then the flour, salt and baking powder, which have been sifted together once. 3. Lastly, fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla. 4. Bake in greased shallow pan for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly browned. 5. Cut in bars and roll in fruit sugar. |
