Crunchy nugget cereal baked in a creamy custard pie. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sweetened condensed milk |
2/3 cup white sugar |
2 egg yolks |
1 tablespoon butter |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 pinch salt |
1/2 cup wheat and barley nugget cereal (e.g. grape-nuts™) |
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust |
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk and sugar. Beat in egg yolks, butter, vanilla and salt. Stir in cereal. Let mixture stand for 1/2 hour. 2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). 3. Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust . 4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Then reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and bake for an additional 35 to 40 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. |
