From the pages of 'Out of Old Nova Scotia Kitchens.' Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter |
1/4 cup shortening |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 egg (beaten) |
1 cup molasses |
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon ground ginger |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1 cup hot water |
Directions:
1. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar. 2. Add egg and molasses, mix until smooth. 3. Add dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. 4. Add hot water and beat until smooth. 5. Pour into a prepared 9x9 baking pan. 6. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes. |
