Using the fall flavors of apple and cranberry and cinnamon makes the house smell great and your tummy feel good! Got this from a friend and have made it numerous times. Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar |
1/2 cup (salted or not) butter, melted |
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon (divided) |
3 tart apples (such as granny smith) peeled, cored and thinly sliced |
1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins |
italian or french bread cut into slices- about 6 to 8 slices |
6 large eggs |
1 1/2 cups milk |
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. Combine brown sugar, butter and 1 teaspoon cinnamon in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. 2. Add apples and cranberries: toss to coat well. Spread apple mixture evenly over the bottom of the baking dish. 3. Arrange slices of bread on top. 4. Mix eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining 2 teaspoons cinnamon until well blended. 5. Pour mixture over bread, soaking bread completely. 6. Cover and refrigerate 4 to 24 hours. 7. Bake, covered with aluminum foil, in preheated 375 degree F. oven for 40 minutes. 8. Uncover and bake 5 minutes. 9. Remove from oven: let stand 5 minutes. 10. Serve warm. |
