I made this for my first Thanksgiving as a young bride. My guests were my husband and brother-in-law. They loved it, and Mike told me to keep the recipe. Ingredients:
6 medium potaoes, peeled and cubed |
2 medium turnips, peeled and cubed |
3 cloves garlic, whole or crushed (see directions) |
salt and pepper to taste |
4 tbs butter, cut in chunks |
1 pint half and half (you won't use all of it) |
Directions:
1. Boil potatoes and turnips in the same pot, until a fork easily goes into both veggies. 2. *If you want a mellow garlic flavor, add the peeled garlic cloves whole and boil with veggies. 3. Drain veggies and return to pot, add butter and enough half and half to gain the consistancy you prefer, Mash well 4. *If you want a stronger garlic flavor, crush cloves into veggies before you mash veggies. Mix well and heat through again. 5. Salt and pepper to taste. |
