A good substitue for baked beans, transfer to a crockpot for easy transport to potlucks. Ingredients:
1 large onion, sliced or diced |
1 lb italian sausage links, cut into chunky slices (sweet basil is good here) |
1 lb bacon, cut up |
15 oz can crushed tomatoes |
1 can each of great northern, red kidney, and black beans, drained |
1 tbsp brown sugar |
1 tsp prepared mustard |
salt and pepper to taste |
1 tbsp oil |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in sauce pan, add bacon and sausage. After bacon has begun to render fat, add onions and cook until golden brown and soft. 2. Add tomatoes, brown sugar, mustard, salt and pepper. 3. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for 30 minutes. 4. Stir in beans and continue to cook until beans are hot. |
