I could never make a good pastry until I got this recipe from my sister, and I don't know where she acquired it. This freezes well and because it makes several pies it's great to have in the freezer all the time. Ingredients:
5 cups flour |
2 tablespoons brown sugar |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 lb cold margarine |
1/2 lb cold lard |
3/4 cup ice cold water |
1 egg yolk |
2 teaspoons cold vinegar |
Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. 2. Cut in margarine and lard. 3. Mix water, egg yolk and vinegar together. 4. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the liquid mixing well. 5. This can then be wrapped and frozen or used immediately. |
