No-Bake Peanut Butter Bars |

For dessert or snacking, these crunchy, peanut butter bars from Mrs. W. Franklin of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta are sure to please. But plan ahead—they need to chill. Ingredients:
3/4 cup packed brown sugar |
1/2 cup light corn syrup |
1 cup peanut butter |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1-1/2 cups crisp rice cereal |
1/2 cup cornflakes |
icing: |
3/4 cup packed brown sugar |
1/4 cup evaporated milk |
3 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. In a heavy saucepan, heat brown sugar and corn syrup over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla; mix well. Fold in cereals. Spread into a greased 11-in. x 7-in. pan. Combine icing ingredients in another saucepan; cook and stir over medium heat for 8 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and icing has thickened slightly. Pour over bars; spread evenly. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before cutting. Yield: 2 dozen. |
