These have been in my family since the early 1920's when my Gramma Alice made up the recipe. They have been a family favorite forever. Ingredients:
1/2 cup cocoa |
4 cups sugar |
1 cup milk |
1 cup margarine |
1 cup peanut butter |
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
6 cups quick-cooking oatmeal |
Directions:
1. Bring first 7 ingredients to a rolling boil. 2. Cook for 3 minutes. 3. Remove from heat. 4. Add quick cooking Oatmeal. 5. Mix well and drop by teaspoon onto wax paper or parchment paper. 6. Let cool. 7. Note: After I have let them cool, I put them in an AIR TIGHT container. 8. Regarding Chef #219653’s review all I can say is NO KIDDING Back then she used Butter; then when it was said butter wasn’t good for a person she changed it to margarine. She used to have to moisten the oats first (patting out the excess water) and then add them to the boiled ingredients. I believe it took about 40 – 45 minutes to do the recipe back then ( I can’t remember for sure) and I cannot ask her as she died in September 1979. 9. Thank for you review as it made me clarify original recipe. |
