This was a favorite dessert of mine when I was little. It's not a sophisticated dessert by any means. It's a great recipe to make with children because it is somewhat magical. :-). After mixing the main ingredients together, it is topped with a sugar and cocoa mix. When it comes out of the oven, a chocolate cake has formed on the top with a chocolate pudding under it. We loved it served warm with whipped cream. Enjoy! Ingredients:
1/2 cup flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/3 cup sugar |
1 tablespoon cocoa |
1/2 cup milk |
1 tablespoon melted shortening |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
2 tablespoons cocoa |
3/4 cup boiling water (do not mix with brown sugar and cocoa) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°. 2. Mix dry ingredients with milk, shortening, and vanilla. 3. Put in greased 9 X 9 pan. 4. Mix brown sugar and cocoa together and sprinkle over batter. 5. Pour boiling water over the top. DO NOT MIX! 6. Bake for 20 - 35 minutes or until brownie on top is cooked. 7. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream. |
