This recipe was given to us by friends in Australia. We've never made it but we've eaten it! Ingredients:
1 cup chopped dates |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 cup boiling water |
1 tablespoon butter |
1/2-3/4 cup sugar |
1 1/2 cups sifted self-raising flour |
1 beaten egg |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts |
Directions:
1. Sprinkle the dates with the baking soda, pour over the water and cool. 2. Cream the butter and sugar together. 3. Add the egg, then the coated date mixture, alternating with the sifted flour. 4. Add the walnuts. 5. Bake in a log tin for 3/4 hour at about 425°F. |
