My nanny made this, then my mom, it is the ultimate comfort food - haven't found another beef stew that makes me feel as warm inside. Like the chili recipe, this is general, put as much, or as little of the ingredients as you like Ingredients:
2 tbsp. flour |
2 tbsp. soy sauce |
beef stew meat |
green peppers |
carrots |
potatoes (russet best for this) |
white or yellow onion |
mushrooms |
1-2 two stalks celery |
garlic |
pepper |
basil |
oregano |
1/2 cup cheap wine (red or white) |
Directions:
1. Make a gravy with soy sauce and gravy 2. Cut potatoes into 4ths, cut carrots in 4ths, coarsely chop onion and green pepper 3. Mix meat, paste, veggies, spices together in big pot, stir together with wooden spoon 4. Pour in wine, cover and let simmer for 4+ hours 5. When potatoes done, good test stew ready to eat |
