A well known New Zealand slice recipe. Normal size of a slice tin is 35cm long x 20 cm wide x 4 cm deep. Ingredients:
150 g butter |
1 teaspoon golden syrup |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1/4 cup coconut |
1/2 cup dates, chopped |
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped |
3/4 cup weetabix, crushed |
1 cup flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
2 tablespoons cocoa |
1 cup brown sugar |
2 tablespoons milk |
2 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 180°C. 2. Melt butter, golden syrup and brown sugar. 3. Add to dry ingredients. 4. Mix well and press into greased swiss roll tray. 5. Bake at for 15-20 minutes. 6. While hot spread caramel icing over and cut while warm. 7. Caramel icing:. 8. In a pot melt brown sugar, milk and butter, then bring to boil. 9. Beat with wooden spoon till thickens and pour over cake immediately. |
