My great-grandmother's recipe Ingredients:
3 lbs apples |
1/2 cup sugar |
1 tablespoon cinnamon |
1 egg |
1 pinch table salt |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1/3 cup vegetable oil |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Remove 2 tbsp to a small bowl. 2. Peel and slice apples. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar over the apples. 3. Mix remaining ingredients well. Add ice water if needed to achieve a good consistency. 4. Dive dough in half and roll out. Place one piece in the bottom of a 9 pie plate. Add the apples. Cover with the second piece of dough. Crimp the edges. Cut a vent in the top crust. Sprinkle reserved cinnamon-sugar over top. 5. Bake in preheated 350F oven about 1 hour or until golden brown. |
