Nana Jean's Chocolate Sponge Pudding

My Nana Jean always use to make this for us.
Ingredients:
2 ounces butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup self raising flour
4 teaspoons cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cocoa
2 cups hot boiled water
Directions:
1. cream butter and sugar (just using wooden spoon).
2. add egg.
3. mix well.
4. fold in sifted flour and cocoa alternately with milk and vanilla/.
5. top with mixed cocoa and sugar.
6. gently pour hot water over ingredients.
7. bake in moderate oven for 30-40 minutes.
