This is my moms old cake recipe... I have no idea what some of the directions mean like *threads*. I just remember this was a good cake growing up... I didnt want to lose the recipe so Im posting it here. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups sugar |
1 1/4 cups all purpose flour |
1/2 cup water |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
6 eggs, separated |
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartat |
1 teaspoon vanilla or orange extract |
Directions:
1. Cook sugar and water until threads (not sure what this means) 2. Beat egg whites until stiff. 3. Pour syrup over egg whites, continuing to beat until cool. 4. Add beaten egg yolks and extract. 5. Sift flour, salt, cream of tartar together 6 times. 6. Fold in quickly. 7. Pour into a ungreased tube pan. 8. Bake in a slow over 325 degrees for one hour. 9. Turn upside down. 10. Allow to cool. 11. Cut from Pan. |
