My mom's bread pudding recipe - her recipe card shows it as Pioneer Bread Pudding. Makes sense; she never wastes anything, alot like the pioneers, I imagine. We had this often when we were kids and it's still a favorite. Read more . My sister requests it instead of birthday cake each year. Ingredients:
(can be doubled for 13 x 9 pan) |
2 c. bread cubes |
2 c. milk |
3 tbsp. butter |
1/4 c. sugar |
2 eggs |
dash salt |
1/2 tsp. vanilla |
Directions:
1. As written: 2. Use day-old bread, crusts and all, cutting it in 1/4 to 1/2 in. cubes. Place these in a buttered 1 qt. baking dish. 3. Scald milK with butter and sugar. Beat the eggs slightly; add the salt; then stir in the warm milk and vanilla. Pour over the bread cubes. 4. Set the baking dish in a pan containing warm water up to the level of the pudding and bake at 350 for 1 hr. 5. Raisins and spices may be added. |
