My dad is an excellent cook, and this is just another one of his great tasting pies he makes around the holidays or in the fall. Ingredients:
2 pie crusts (deep dish or regular, doesn't matter) |
4-6 good sized granny smith's, or another tasty apple substitute |
1 cup sugar |
1 lemon |
1 bag of cranberries |
cinnamon (amount to your liking) |
2 tbsp. butter or margarine |
tiny bit of warm milk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees 2. Quarter and core apples - do not peel 3. Fill first pie crust with 1/2 the apples 4. Pour 1/2 cup of the sugar over the apples 5. Pour half the cranberries into the pie 6. Squeeze half the lemon over the pie 7. Fill with remaning of apples, sugar, cranberries and lemon juice 8. Sprinkle with cinnamon 9. Cut up butter and place throughout the pie (use more butter if want) 10. With other pie crust roll out and fold in half, creating 4 vent slits in the middle 11. Place on top and trim edges if necessary 12. Press pie edges together, pressing together with a fork dipped in warm milk 13. Poke pie for venting 14. With rest of milk pour over top of pie, getting it all damp 15. Sprinkle with sugar 16. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes 17. Take out, but aluminum foil around edges so don't burn, lower to 350 degrees 18. Bake for 40 minutes 19. Let cool |
