Mustard is the perfect complement for salmon; it brings out the flavor so nicely. This recipe, from Woman's Day, is my kind of recipe; first of all it has only 3 ingredients. But you can add an ingredient (see note) and get a whole new taste! If your have it on hand, you can substitute maple-flavored pancake syrup for the pure maple syrup. Ingredients:
1 salmon fillet, cut into 5 equal pieces (1-1/2 pounds) |
1/4 cup coarse grain mustard |
2 tablespoons pure maple syrup |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. You will need a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil. 2. Place salmon pieces 1-inch apart, skin side down, on the lined baking sheet. 3. Stir mustard and maple syrup together in a small bowl until blended; spoon evenly on salmon. 4. Bake 10 minutes until salmon is opaque in center. 5. NOTE: Add 1/4 cup of Panko crumbs on top of each mustard-coated salmon fillet before baking. 6. Add 1 teaspoon orange zest to the mustard mixture. 7. Omit the maple syrup and instead add 1/4 cup packed brown sugar and 1 tablespoon soy sauce to mustard. |
