Grandma made these every Christmas. The dough has cheddar cheese, dry mustard, and paprika.Just be careful not to add too much pepper to the filling. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard |
1/4 teaspoon paprika |
2/3 cup shortening |
3 tablespoons grated cheddar cheese |
4 tablespoons ice water |
1/2 lb mushroom |
3 green onions |
2 tablespoons butter |
1/2 teaspoon butter |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/16 teaspoon pepper |
1 egg yolk |
Directions:
1. Cut Shortning into dry ingredients. 2. Stir in cheese. 3. Add water, mixing with fork. 4. Roll into ball and wrap in wax paper. 5. Chill dough. 6. Wash dry and chop mushrooms and green onion. 7. Saute in melted butter. 8. Remove from heat, stir in seasoning and slightly beaten egg yolk. 9. Cool. 10. Preheat oven to 425. 11. Roll out pastry on lightly floured board to 1/8 thickness. 12. Cut into 3 circles or rectangles. 13. Place heaping teaspoons of filling in center. 14. Dampen edges of pastry. 15. Fold over and seal with fork. 16. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. 17. Cut small vents for steam. 18. Brush tops with left over egg white or milk. 19. Bake 15 minute or until nicely brown. |
