Ingredients:
2 cups water |
2 cups sugar |
1 orange, sliced |
1 lemon, sliced |
2 (2 1/2-inch) cinnamon sticks |
12 whole cloves |
12 allspice berries |
2 (750-milliliter) bottles or 1 (1.5-liter) bottle dry red wine |
garnishes: cinnamon sticks, orange rind curls |
Directions:
1. Combine first 7 ingredients in a Dutch oven over medium heat; bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Add wine; simmer 10 minutes. Pour mixture through a wire-mesh strainer into a container; discard solids. Garnish, if desired. 2. Note: For testing purposes only, we used Gallo Hearty Burgundy wine. |
