This cake was given to me over the phone from a customer while I was working overtime on a Saturday -15 years ago - It is STILL the best recipe I have ever found and the easiest. Friends love it. If it isn't perfect the first time, keep trying. Read more ..practice makes it perfect. Ovens and such vary. Ingredients:
3 sticks soft butter |
3 cups sugar |
6 eggs |
3 cups all purpose flour |
1/2 tea salt |
1/2 tea baking powder |
1 cup buttermilk (or 4 tbls dry buttermilk-found in baking aisle) |
flavoring (1 tbls vanilla or juice of 1/2 lemon and zest of 1 whole ) |
Directions:
1. cream together the butter and sugar 2. add eggs one at a time mix throughly after each addition 3. In seperate bowl 4. Mix flour, salt and baking powder 5. Combine the dry ingredients to the wet 6. half at a time just until combined 7. *****CAUTION: Do not OVER MIX once you add dry ingredients***** 8. add milk and flavoring 9. ( I prefer the 1 piece bundt cake pan with straight sides.) 10. Bake at 325 for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Test for doneness 11. GLAZE: combine confectionary sugar with juice of lemon to desire consistency and drizzed or drench cake. Great with carmel too! |
