Original cook's comments: This is a dense whole wheat bread. Using applesauce instead of butter and honey in place of sugar make this bread very dense but delicious. I make in the bread machine. My comments: This worked first time for me using the rapid bake cycle on my Black & Decker bread machine. It is a dense tasty loaf. The only change I made was the order I put the ingredients in the loaf pan. Note: The rapid bake cycle on my bread machine is approx. 2 hours long. I have noticed that some bread machines have a super rapid cycle of approx. 1 hour. I doubt this recipe would work on a super rapid cycle. Ingredients:
1 cup water, luke warm |
2 tablespoons non-fat powdered milk, stirred into water |
1 tablespoon honey |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
2 tablespoons applesauce |
3 cups whole wheat flour |
1 1/2 tablespoons bread machine yeast (equals 4 1/2 tsp. or 2 packages) |
Directions:
1. Simply add ingredients in order shown and start on the rapid setting. (My note: this is order for my B&D bread machine. I used the light crust setting.). 2. Note from the original cook: I've had much better luck with the rapid setting than the whole wheat setting. 3. Note from the original cook: Because whole wheat flour is heavy I use 2 pkg of yeast. If you only have one pkg, make this with the whole wheat setting or the setting that allows the most rise time. |
