Mr. Maggie loves this recipe and will often get right into it, needing a bath afterwards. No one ever said cockatiels were neat eaters! Ingredients:
6 unpeeled hard-cooked eggs, mashed |
1 (4.5 ounce) jar baby food, fruit and vegetable mix |
1 large carrot, grated |
1 apple, grated |
1/4 cup rolled oats |
1/4 cup fruit pellets for cockatiels (from pet store) |
2 tablespoons bird seed mix |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) |
1/4 cup apple juice, or as needed |
Directions:
1. Mix eggs with their shells, baby food, carrot, apple, oats, fruit pellets, bird seed mix, and cinnamon in a large bowl until combined. Add apple juice as needed to make a thick paste. 2. Shape egg mixture into 24 individual balls and place on a baking sheet. Freeze for 1 hour, transfer to zip-top plastic bags, and return to the freezer. 3. Defrost balls in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours before feeding. |
