Mr. Headrick was a gentleman (probably in his 70's at the time) who used to walk everyday at the shopping ctr where my Mom and I had a dress shop - over 20 years ago. Every Christmas he would bring fudge to all of us merchants. Read more . His pockets would be full of peanut butter or chocolate fudge, cut into 1 inch squares, all individually wrapped in foil! He finally gave Mom his recipe...and even she says it's the best fudge she ever had. (And hers is pretty darn good! LOL ) I'm sure Mr. Headrick is long gone, but, we talk about him and his candy every year. Somehow, it's just not the same when we make it as it was when he would bring it to us! Ingredients:
5 c sugar |
1 large can evaporated milk |
2 sticks margarine |
1 large package chocolate chips or 1 - 12 oz jar peanut butter |
1 small jar marshmallow cream |
2 c chopped nuts optional |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar, evaporated milk and margarine in stovetop pot 2. Cook 9 minutes 3. Stir in chocolate chips OR peanut butter, marshmallow cream, and nuts (nuts are optional) 4. Pour onto buttered jelly roll trays |
