The best sugar cookie recipe I've found! Make them big and thick and they resemble gourmet cookies! Timing is everything, so don't let them get brown! You will have big soft cookies with a great frosting that hardens, but doesn't get too hard! Read more ! Ingredients:

3/4 cup butter flavored shortening |
1 cup white sugar |
2 eggs |
1 tablespoon milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |

1 tablespoon butter |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
2 1/2 cups confectioner's sugar |
3 tablespoons milk |
food coloring (optional) |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, cream together: shortening and white sugar until smooth 2. Beat in eggs one at a time 3. Stir in milk and vanilla 4. Combine with flour, baking powder and salt, stir into the creamed mixture. (sift dry ingredients for best result) 5. Cover & chill for at least an hour 6. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 7. Lightly grease cookie sheet or use parchment paper 8. Roll out dough to 1/4 thickness on lightly floured surface 9. Cut desired shapes 10. Place cookies about 1 1/2 inches apart on cookie sheet 11. Bake 6 to 8 minutes - do not wait for them to brown ... take them out with a very slight browning underneath or no brown at all 12. Let cookies rest on cookie sheet for 2 minutes 13. Cool on wire rack completely before frosting 14. - 15. Frosting 16. In a small bowl cream butter and vanilla together 17. Add confectioner's sugar, mix with spatula 18. Mix in milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency - may add more than 3 tablespoons 19. Stir in food color in desired 20. Decorate cookies, dry on wire racks or wax paper |
