Okay, not my mother's but my friend Natalie's mother's sauce. This recipe was given to me at my cooking themed bridal shower years ago. I got a lot of really cool kitchen gadgets but more importantly everyone brought me a family recipe to treasure! Adjust water if necessary. Ingredients:
4 tablespoons olive oil |
1 cup onion, chopped |
2 garlic cloves, minced |
1 lb ground beef |
1 cup sliced mushrooms |
4 cups italian plum tomatoes, chopped |
12 ounces tomato paste |
3 cups water |
2 teaspoons salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
1/4 teaspoon sugar |
1 teaspoon oregano |
1 bay leaf |
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning |
Directions:
1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onion and garlic until golden brown. 2. Add the beef and cook until the meat looses it's red color. 3. Add mushrooms and cook 3 minutes longer, stirring occasionally. 4. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, bay leaf, and Italian seasoning. 5. Simmer uncovered for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. |
