Mother actually typed this card. Ingredients:
7 cups flour, sifted |
1 tablespoon salt |
1 tablespoon ginger |
1 teaspoon clove, ground |
1/2 teaspoon allspice |
3/4 cup water |
1/4 cup rum |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
2 cups dark molasses |
8 ounces butter (she had shortening) |
2 cups sugar |
Directions:
1. Sift flour with salt, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and allspice. 2. Combine water with rum. 3. Combine soda with molasses. 4. Cream butter and sugar. 5. Add sifted ingredients, water mixture and molasses mixture in 2 batches to creamed mixture, blending well after each addition. 6. Chill dough, preferably overnight. 7. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness on floured surface. 8. Cut with - and it ends - 9. So I will guess cookie cutters. 10. I suspect they are baked at 350 for 8-12 minutes. |
