This recipe was my mother's traditional bread recipe for the Christmas holidays. It is the best!!! Great texture and very moist. It would make great cream cheese sandwiches for tea time. Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1 medium egg |
2 tablespoons buttermilk |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoons shortening |
1/2 pecans, chopped |
1 cup sugar |
1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed |
Directions:
1. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together. 2. Cream shortening, add sugar, and beaten egg. 3. Mix well. 4. Mash bananas really well. 5. Add the buttermilk. 6. Add chopped pecans to the sifted dry ingredients and fold into creamed mixture gradually , alternating with milk and bananas. 7. Pour into pan lined with waxed paper, and bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 1 hour. |
