Mother started making this after the family moved to the farm. Had to do something with all those apples that were ripe at one time. Ingredients:
2 quarts apple puree |
2 cups apple cider, boiled down to 1 cup (or 1 cup apple cider vinegar) |
4 cups sugar |
2 teaspoons ground cloves |
2 teaspoons allspice |
1 tablespoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 250. 2. Combine everything and bring to a boil. Cook gently 30 minutes, stirring frequently. 3. Pour into oven proof dish or pan and bake, uncovered in a slow oven, 250, for 2 hours or until thick, stirring occasionally. 4. Pour into hot jars and seal. 5. Comment: if keeping on the shelf used standard canning methods. |
