This is based on a dessert that a friend of mine made recently. Lots of flavor and delicious with a strong cup ot coffee. These are quite large and could be halved to serve 8. You could also use puff pastry and omit the extra butter. Read more . The end product will be a little different, but will still taste great. Ingredients:
4 sheets of phylo, yufka or strudel dough. |
ca. 1/2 cup melted butter |
1/2 cup each dried apricots and dried figs, chopped |
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped |
1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped |
pinch of salt |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400F. 2. Mix fruit, nuts, salt and chocolate together in a bowl. Set aside. 3. Thoroughly butter each layer of phylo or yufka and stack on top of each other and cut into 4 pieces. Cover with a cloth. 4. Take one stack of the dough and put about 1/4 of the nut mixture in the center. Fold in the edges to cover the filling and carefully place on baking paper on a cookie sheet with the folded side on the bottom. 5. When all are done, brush with butter and place in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown. |
