My Mom's Swiss Steak - another favorite growing up. I have tried it with sirloin, or better cuts of meat, and, I have to say - it's better her way! ; ) Ingredients:
round or chuck steak, 2 thick |
1/2 c flour |
2 t salt |
1 t black pepper |
shortening |
2 t worchestershire |
1 onion, sliced in rings |
1 large can whole tomatoes (hunts, or other that is not sweet) |
** i usually add some seasoned salt, garlic pepper, and italian seasoning - just a few shakes of each |
Directions:
1. Mix together flour, salt and pepper 2. Pound into both sides of steak 3. Brown both sides of steak in deep electric skillet, in 1 - 2 T melted shortening 4. Lay onion slices on top 5. Sprinkle with worcestershire 6. Cover with tomatoes 7. Shake other seasonings over all 8. Heat to simmer 9. Reduce heat to low 10. Cover and cook 1 1/2 hours |
