Moms Fruit Cream Salad

My mother always made this for Thanksgiving. Cook time is chilling time.
Ingredients:
1 (29 ounce) can fruit cocktail (save syrup)
1 (20 ounce) can pineapple chunks (save syrup)
1 sliced banana
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 cups walnuts
1/2 pint heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 little sugar
Directions:
1. Pour syrup into saucepan.
2. Add your cornstarch and cook over medium heat until thickened; cool.
3. Whip cream in large bowl.
4. Add vanilla& sugar.
5. Mix syrup mixture and fruits together; add to cream mixture.
6. Add walnuts and chill.
