You know how when you ask your Mom or grandmother for a recipe and they say, well, i don't know exact amounts, i just put it in and taste it ....well, this is my mom's chili. I love it. But then, i think everybody loves their own mother's chili. My husband thinks it is too tomato-y. The amounts are not exact, I often add more water, another can of tomatoes, or more spices depending on what I think it needs. Very good with saltine crackers or with tortilla chips and cheddar cheese. Love my mom, love her chili! Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef |
1 medium onion, chopped |
2 -3 cloves garlic (more depending on your taste) |
1 -2 can kidney bean, drained (i use 1 can light & 1 can dark) |
1 (15 ounce) can tomato paste |
5 1/4 cups water |
1 (32 ounce) can tomatoes |
2 cans tomato sauce |
1 teaspoon cumin |
2 teaspoons chili powder |
1 teaspoon red pepper |
Directions:
1. Brown ground beef with onion and garlic in soup pot. 2. Drain grease and rinse with water in colander. 3. Put back in pot. 4. Add all other ingredients. 5. Cook for at least one hour. 6. Will get hotter as it ages. |
