Another classic from the 50's and 60's when my darling mother was the queen of the neighborhood BBQs. Ingredients:
40 ounces ketchup (heinz) |
3/4 cup white vinegar (recipe says 1/3 bottle) |
3/4 cup vegetable oil |
1/2 cup a-1 steak sauce |
1/2 cup worcestershire sauce |
tabasco sauce (7 shakes) |
3 bay leaves (optional) |
1 teaspoon oregano |
1/4 cup liquid smoke |
3 tablespoons brown sugar |
1 teaspoon garlic powder |
1 teaspoon onion powder |
Directions:
1. Combine all in saucepan. Simmer on LOW for 30 minutes. 2. Refrigerate at least 3 hours (or overnight) before using. 3. Add to meats on grill JUST before they're done. (We all know that the sugars in tomato-based sauces burn like a son-of-a-gun very easily.) Excellent on chicken, burgers, you name it. |
