I'm not sure where she got this recipe, but Mom use to make this for the family a couple of times a week, now I make it for my kids and they just love it. Red and Golden Delicious apples are not good cooking apples, they tend to be mushy, I prefer Granny Smith, but any firm apple will work. Prep time includes peeling and slicing apples. Ingredients:
4 medium apples, peeled and sliced |
1/4 cup hot water |
1/2 cup flour |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 cup butter |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°. 2. Arrange apples in a buttered 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 pan. 3. Pour water over apples. 4. Mix flour and sugar and use a pastry blender to blend in butter. These ingredients can also be placed in a food processor. Blend until mixture looks like fine crumbs. 5. Sprinkle over apples. 6. Bake for 40 - 45 minutes until apples are tender and top is golden brown. |
